Human resource management in the hospitality industry.

It is important to ensure worker performance and positive organizational outcomes. The very nature of the industry is to provide hospitality, and that requires the use of HR in delivering proper services. Hence, small- and medium-sized hotels should formalize their HRM practices. From the hospitality industry’s perspective, there are many accompanying societal changes with great significance for the industry’s operators. These include increased disposable incomes, more time for leisure (although it is reported that this trend is reversing in some countries), easier and cheaper travel and, as a consequence of improved lifestyles and medical services, increased longevity, resulting in increasing populations and demographic restructuring. Alongside this, the media in their many forms are informing and shaping people’s behaviour as never before.

If hotels are concerned to achieve better performance levels, the management should focus on HRM practices. HRM is a crucial factor in the hospitality industry, and it cannot be denied. Mainly two facts are highlighting this importance. The first fact is that the hospitality industry is a people business which is completely customized and quality-focused. The human element is an important part of the overall success in any business, such as a hotel business. The most members in the workplace have direct contact with the guest and are seen as being involved in achieving the objectives of the hotel. The quality of service offered in the organisation is dependent not only upon the skills but also upon the attitudes of the staff. Keep in mind that customers are the backbone of any business, and customer satisfaction makes the proper growth of the hotel. According to a hotel, the management has to maintain the standard of food and beverage, accommodation or other facilities of the hotel as by the courtesy, helpfulness and personal qualities of the staff. So we have to realise the importance of human resource management and proper considerations have to be done.
